Sellers Terrell, LPC, LPC/MHSP

Psychotherapist
TN
I am an alternative and eclectic clinician with over 6 years of professional counseling experience. I hold a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Troy University. My primary specialty is working with adults struggling with addiction, relationships, codependency, complex trauma, depression, anxiety, and general identity and life adjustment issues. I pride myself on being a safe space for LGBTQ+ folx, both as an ally and a member of the queer community, and I am a non-religious/secular clinician. I take a holistic approach to counseling, addressing the mind, body, and spirit as a whole. I use a trauma-informed and strength-based approach in all treatment planning and goal development for clients. I incorporate behavioral therapies to help clients break cycles and patterns that no longer serve them, alongside somatic experiencing exercises, mindfulness meditation, and nature-based remedies to address internalized traumatic stress and anxiety. My experience spans working with children as young as 8 years old to adults up to age 90 in a variety of settings, including residential care, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs, private practice, and psychiatric prison environments.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a LGBTQIA+ and identity affirming clinician with progressive values. I also strive to be a consistently non-judgmental, safe place for all. I am open-minded, incorporate humor when necessary, and always approach my client care through a strengths-based and trauma-informed lens as we all have strengths and positive qualities despite our backgrounds or current shortcomings.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During our initial intake/assessment session, I prefer using a casual-conversational style to gather information about you, your background, and problem areas that have brought you to therapy. Throughout our counseling relationship I will guide you through various skills building, challenge you to make positive changes in your life, and be a source of support on your healing/recovery journey. We will design your treatment plan together so that you can set your own goals and pace.
