Psychotherapist
TX
Hello, I'm Selma. Over the years, our understanding of trauma has evolved significantly. While we once thought of trauma as only major events like natural disasters or war, we now recognize that any event overwhelming an individual's ability to cope can have lasting effects on their sense of self or identity. This can include experiences like a teacher's negative evaluation, emotionally neglectful parenting, or the breakup of a romantic relationship. These events can leave lasting marks, manifesting as anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties. I am here to help you explore the origins of your current distressing emotions and reprocess them for a more fulfilling life. With nearly 30 years of counseling experience, I have had the privilege of working with children, adolescents, and adults. My journey began in the public school system as a school counselor at both the elementary and secondary levels. In 2000, I became a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas, and the following year, I earned my PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from St. Mary's University in San Antonio. My career as a counselor educator started shortly after, with my first assignment being the development of a counseling training lab for our master's students. Serving as the director of the clinic for nine years provided me with invaluable experience in the community counseling model. I am certified in EMDR and work from a foundation of relational-cultural theory. My passion for mental health drives me, and I feel privileged to work with individuals who have experienced emotional wounds. Whether you have lived through 'big T traumas' or 'little T traumas,' I believe that together we can navigate these challenges and help you achieve the emotional, spiritual, and physical wellness you deserve. If you are ready to take the first step towards healing, I am here to support you on your journey.
