Do you feel like you’re constantly "on," yet stuck in place? For many, anxiety and trauma don’t always look like fear, rather it shows up as irritability, a short fuse, restlessness, or feeling disconnected from the people who matter most. You’ve spent a long time trying to "power through," but you’re tired of just surviving. I’m Seth Erickson, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the Clinical Director of NorthWork Counseling. Drawing on over a decade of experience and advanced fellowship training at the SIU School of Medicine, I specialize in helping clients translate internal overwhelm into understanding and action. I believe therapy works best when it’s a genuine conversation, not a stiff, clinical lecture. Using evidence-based methods like trauma-informed CBT, we will identify the patterns holding you back and build the steady, grounded control you need to move forward.

Getting to know Seth Erickson

What should a new client know about working with you?

I understand that starting therapy can feel like a hurdle, so my goal is to make the process as straightforward and high-value as possible. I’m often described as "the calm in the storm," but I also believe in a collaborative, "roll-up-your-sleeves" approach. You won't find a judgmental or overly clinical atmosphere here; instead, we’ll use a mix of direct conversation and a well-timed sense of humor to break through the noise of a difficult season. What to expect: *Practical Tools: We use CBT and solution-focused strategies so you leave sessions with insight you can apply to your life immediately. *Your Pace: While we work toward real-world gains, we always move at a speed that respects your comfort level. *Human-First: I show up to our sessions as a person first, ensuring you have a safe, non-judgmental space to do the heavy lifting.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Starting therapy with me is designed to be simple and effective. Here is how we get to work: Step 1: The Foundation: Once you book, you’ll complete brief digital forms. No paperwork drills—just the essential info I need so we can hit the ground running in our first session. Step 2: The Strategy Session: Our first meeting is about clarity. We’ll identify the specific "hang-ups" from anxiety or trauma that are stalling your progress and outline a strategy to fix them. Step 3: Consistent Gains: We meet weekly or bi-weekly via secure video. These sessions are active and collaborative, using trauma-informed tools to challenge the thoughts holding you back. Step 4: Real-World Application: The goal is for you to eventually not need me. We constantly check your progress to ensure you’re gaining the tools and mindset required to handle life's challenges on your own.
