Getting to know Shanikqua Palmer
My name is Shanikqua Palmer, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's in Social Work from the School of Social Work, specializing in CBT and Trauma-Informed Therapy. As a native of Harlem, NY, with over a decade of service to The Bronx community, my ultimate passion is dedicated to helping youth and families of color heal from and process the traumas they have experienced or continue to experience. These traumas include racial and generational trauma, grief and loss, abandonment, foster care, homelessness, abuse, community violence, and the impacts of the school-to-prison pipeline.
As a musician, Hip-Hop historian, and poet with a background in trauma, my approach is strength-based, ecological, and creative. These modalities create a safe space and foster a positive social worker-client relationship while allowing clients to explore new ways of healing through the expressive arts.
