Getting to know Shannon Dove

My passion is to give kids, teens, and parents a reason to hope for change. No matter the challenge, I believe that with the right tools, anyone can overcome obstacles or setbacks. I have over 20 years of experience helping people heal from past trauma as well as develop skills to manage challenging mood and behavior disorders. I hold a Master’s in Family Therapy from Hardin-Simmons University, which has equipped me with the knowledge and expertise to support families through their healing journeys.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My manner is very laid-back, gentle and non-judgementsl, but I am able to challenge my clients when necessary. I use various techniques such as play therapy, art therapy and talk therapy to help my clients navigate their world.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is the intake where I gather background information, relative social history and the clients reason for seeking therapy. Generally, the second session is set apart to develop goals that you and I will be working on together. The follow up sessions involve talking about your successes and challenges throughout the week. It’s also an opportunity to process past trauma if necessary.
