Getting to know Shannon Elizabeth

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) with over a decade of clinical experience and dual graduate training in Clinical Psychology and Gender Studies. My work is rooted in a trauma-informed, relational approach with a strong commitment to LGBTQIA+ affirming care. I specialize in supporting adults navigating complex trauma, identity development, and the long-term effects of early relational wounds. My style is warm, direct, and deeply respectful of the many ways people survive. Therapy with me is collaborative and adaptive--whether you’re unpacking generational patterns, exploring your gender or sexual identity, or simply trying to feel more at home in yourself, you’ll be met with both clinical skill and genuine care

What should a new client know about working with you?

Many people who come to therapy with me are used to being the strong one—the person others rely on, the one who keeps going even when things feel heavy inside. From the outside their lives may appear together, but internally they may feel overwhelmed, stuck in certain patterns, or unsure why the same struggles continue to show up in their relationships or emotional life. My goal in therapy is to create a space where you feel comfortable showing up as you are, without needing to have everything perfectly explained or figured out. Many clients worry about “saying the right thing” in therapy, but our work together simply begins with whatever feels most present for you. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in curiosity rather than judgment. I believe our experiences make sense when we take the time to understand the environments, relationships, and coping strategies that shaped us. Many people develop ways of coping that once helped them get through difficult situations but may no longer feel supportive in the present. Therapy gives us the opportunity to understand these patterns with compassion and begin creating new ways of responding that feel more aligned with who you are now. n our work together, we balance thoughtful insight with practical support. Some sessions may focus on processing emotions or experiences, while others may focus on building tools for navigating relationships, managing stress, and responding differently to challenges in everyday life. Above all, therapy is a collaborative process. If something in your life feels heavy, confusing, or difficult to carry alone, we can start there and work through it together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When we begin working together, the first phase of therapy focuses on understanding what has brought you in and getting a fuller picture of your life. In the early sessions, we talk about the concerns that feel most present right now, while also exploring important relationships, past experiences, and patterns that may be shaping how you feel or respond to situations today. I view therapy as a collaborative process. Rather than rushing to solutions, we take time to understand what’s happening beneath the surface. Many people find that simply having a space to slow down, reflect, and be understood begins to bring clarity to experiences that once felt confusing or overwhelming. Many clients I work with have developed ways of coping that made sense at one time in their lives but may no longer be serving them in the present. Part of our work is gently understanding how those patterns developed and creating space for new ways of responding that feel more supportive and sustainable. As our work continues, we begin identifying patterns in thoughts, emotions, and relationships that may be keeping you stuck. From there, therapy becomes a balance of insight and practical change—helping you understand yourself more deeply while also developing new ways of responding to challenges, regulating difficult emotions, and relating to others. Throughout the process, my goal is to create a thoughtful and supportive environment where clients can explore difficult topics, build greater self-understanding, and move toward meaningful and lasting change.
