Getting to know Shannon Hamilton
Hello, I am Shannon Hamilton, an LPC in Missouri. I take a very person-centered and trauma-focused approach to my practice. I have worked with all age groups and have a focus on addictions, trauma, attachment disorders, as well as anxiety and depression. I earned my Master's in Counseling from Missouri State University.
My approach
Person-centered and trauma-focused. I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, sand tray, and art to assist clients in learning to manage emotions and heal through their lived experiences.
My focus
I typically work with adolescents and adults. I am very comfortable treating addictive disorders, trauma, personality disorders, and attachment disorders.
My communication style
I take an empathetic and supportive role in sessions with clients. I provide feedback and assist clients in gaining self-efficacy.
My journey to mental healthcare
I began my career as a case worker and quickly realized that I wanted to take a more personal approach to how I assist clients in gaining a sense of control in their lives. I have been in therapy myself and understand the importance of having a safe space to heal.
