Getting to know Shannon Mason

I’m a therapist who believes connection is the most powerful tool for growth. My background is deeply rooted in supporting children and adolescents in school settings, giving me first hand insight into the challenges of learning, social dynamics, and advocacy. I’ve worked extensively with children and teens with developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and Down Syndrome, and I bring that experience into every session.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I’m not here to give you a clinical lecture or a quick fix; I’m here to walk alongside you. I bring a mix of structure and creativity to our sessions, ensuring therapy feels approachable and human. Outside of the office, I’m a parent myself, which keeps me grounded in the beautiful, messy reality of raising a child and fuels my passion for supporting the next generation. If you’re ready to start, I’d be honored. to help you and your family find your way forward.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Working with Neurodiverse Children, Teens and Adults: Life can already feel like a heavy lift, but when you’re navigating a world that wasn’t necessarily built for your unique brain or way of moving through life, it can feel overwhelming at any stage of life. You might feel like you’re constantly being “worked on” rather than truly understood. Maybe school, work, or daily life feels like a battleground of sensory overload, or social cues feel like a language you weren’t given the manual for. I work with children, teens, and adults, and I meet each person where they are. For kids and teens, that might mean navigating school challenges, friendships, and identity. For adults, it can look like managing work stress, relationships, or unlearning years of masking and burnout. For parents, I see the exhaustion that comes with fierce advocacy, the weight of wanting your child to be happy and supported while also worrying about the future. In our work together, you don’t have to perform or “mask” to fit in. Whether we are navigating identity, school or work stress, or emotional regulation, I provide a space where yo Working with children and teens:  Being a teen is hard, but it doesn’t have to feel impossible. Between school stress, friendships, anxiety, emotions that may feel bigger than expected, and the pressure to have everything figured out, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or stuck. Therapy doesn’t have to be awkward or boring. In our sessions, we focus on building real-life skills that actually make sense for teens. We work on coping strategies, emotional regulation, managing anxiety, positive self-talk, and understanding what’s going on beneath the surface. We don’t just talk, we problem-solve. I help teens figure out practical ways to handle school, friendships, and everyday stress; all in a space that feels supportive, relaxed, and judgment-free. The goal isn’t to change who you are, but to help you feel more confident, more in control, and more like yourself!
