Shannon Mott, LCSW

Shannon Mott, LCSW

Psychotherapist
LA
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who believes therapy should feel like a safe, supportive space where you can be heard without judgment. At Gentilly Behavioral Health, I work with individuals who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship challenges, life transitions, grief, trauma-related concerns, or simply feeling overwhelmed by everything they are carrying. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and individualized. I take time to understand the whole person—not just a diagnosis or a single concern—and work with each client to identify practical goals and develop healthier ways of coping, communicating, and moving forward. Whether you are navigating a difficult season, trying to understand patterns that keep repeating, or simply want support in becoming the best version of yourself, therapy can provide a space to slow down, gain clarity, and create meaningful change. My goal is for clients to leave therapy feeling understood, empowered, and equipped with tools they can use in their everyday lives. I welcome the opportunity to work with you and help you take the next step toward greater emotional well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Your first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know one another, discuss what brought you to therapy, identify your goals, and determine how I can best support you. You do not have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. We can begin wherever you are. I believe therapy works best when it is collaborative, so your experiences, goals, and preferences will help guide our work together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our work together, my goal is to create a calm, supportive space where you can talk openly and feel genuinely heard. A typical session begins with checking in about how you’ve been feeling and what’s been most present for you. From there, we explore your concerns at a pace that feels comfortable, whether that’s stress, mood changes, relationship challenges, or anything else you’re navigating. If you’re seeking psychiatric care, I start with a thorough diagnostic evaluation to understand your symptoms, medical history, and goals. I explain my impressions clearly and collaborate with you on a treatment plan, which may include talk therapy, lifestyle approaches, and—when appropriate—medication management. I believe in shared decision‑making, so you’ll always know the ‘why’ behind any recommendation. Over time, sessions focus on helping you gain insight, build coping skills, and feel more grounded and empowered in your daily life. My approach is warm, direct, and practical, and I tailor each session to what you need most that day.
