Getting to know Shanta Gomez

Hello and welcome. Seeking therapy can feel like a big step, and I’m glad you’re here. I believe therapy is a powerful space where people can grow, heal, and reconnect with themselves and others in ways that may once have felt impossible. My approach is collaborative and holistic, focusing on the connection between mind, body, and community. I believe we are not meant to navigate life’s challenges alone, and therapy can offer a supportive environment to work through difficult experiences while building resilience and self-understanding.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach that honors each client’s unique story and cultural background. My work is grounded in liberation psychology, which recognizes how personal struggles are often shaped by larger social and systemic forces. Together, we work to identify patterns, develop practical coping strategies, and create meaningful change. In private practice, I work with individuals, couples, and families, with a focus on trauma, grief, and identity development, including LGBTQ+ and first-generation experiences. I strive to create a space where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered to move toward the lives they want to build.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My professional background includes working with survivors of sexual harm as a medical advocate, followed by earning my Master’s in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago. I have worked with a wide range of populations across Chicago, including serving as a case manager at Howard Brown Health and as a school-based therapist for elementary students in Little Village, where I also supported parents and educators. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for the ways trauma, culture, identity, and family dynamics intersect in people’s lives.
