Getting to know Sharon Fu

Seeds of Hope is not a provider for Medicare or Medicaid. Sharon is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with a Master of Science degree from National Louis University and is certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors, and a member of the Illinois Mental Health Counseling Association and trained in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (ASIST). Sharon’s previous experience includes work at a women’s crisis shelter where she assisted residents in breaking the cycle of violence, as well as several years as a generalist with a group practice addressing mood disorders, stress management, trauma, and emotional regulation. We are an inclusive practice and welcome all from the LGBTQ community.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My counseling approach is casual and unhurried. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy to address and help manage anxiety. I can help you identify unhelpful thinking patterns, emotional responses and behaviors and replace them with more helpful ones. You will learn behavior activation techniques to address your depression symptoms, ruminations, and low motivation. There are no rules for the session, you can come sit and talk about whatever you need to in the moment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session will be getting to know each other and the beginning of building trust. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable, there are no expectations. My role is to support you and challenge the way you are thinking about your problem, helping you to loosen control, set meaningful boundaries, and modify unhealthy habits. When you have completed therapy, you will have found solutions to the problem, and you will feel more confident and self-assured in how you work through future problems.
