“Sharon creates a setting that feels as comfortable and natural as venting to a friend, however, the way she leads each session is a poignant reminder that we are there to work. She has had such a tremendous impact during what is one of the most challenging times in my life. She's helped me reach some of the deepest places that needed healing and she continues asking thought-provoking questions that force me to dig deeper. I can feel years of stuck trauma gradually healing thanks to her.”

Getting to know Sharon Koopmans-Hempton

Hi, I'm Sharon! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's in Social Work from the University of Denver. I am passionate about making strong human connections and creating a safe place for growth and change. My approach is client-centered and strength-based. I believe that in life we are ever-changing, often faced with difficulties, and have the ability to overcome them. As a therapist, my goal is to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment to assist you in becoming the best version of yourself. I work with individuals, families, and adolescents who are experiencing various struggles, including anxiety, grief and loss, chronic pain, job stress, phases of life issues, and distress related to trauma. My approach My approach to therapy is most importantly focused on creating a safe and secure relationship with my clients. I work toward achieving this while utilizing strength-based therapy, CBT, solution-focused, DBT, behavioral therapy, and mindfulness-based techniques. The most important aspect of my work is making supportive human connections. My focus I have treated families, individuals, and adolescents. I am comfortable treating depression, anxiety, grief and loss, chronic pain, gender issues, trauma, phases of life, work stress, relationship issues, opposition issues in adolescence, parenting, and prenatal/postnatal care. My communication style I have a very warm and compassionate tone with clients. Over the past 22 years, many clients have told me it feels safe and caring to be present with me. I also integrate humor when appropriate. I have an extensive history of working with adolescents and have made many strong connections with them. My journey to mental healthcare I was drawn to this career as a therapist due to my love for people and helping support positive change. The ability to make a difference and build a trusting relationship while witnessing growth in clients is one of the greatest rewards.

Sharon is an amazing provider. I look forward to our appointments- it never feels forced and is more like I am conversing with a friend. She asks questions that make you think, but dont feel clinical. I highly recommend her as a therapist.
She is easy to talk to and does a great job of pointing out different perspectives or validating when appropriate. She is great at giving space during necessary moments of silence. I also love that she will bring up topics that I sometimes want to avoid because it helps with processing situations that have bothered me.

Sharon does a phenomenal job at feeling like a friend. I was really scared of therapy because I thought I would be looked down on for my lack of self care. But Sharon validates me at every possible opportunity. She shares helpful tips that I would not have known on my own, but she does it in a way that feels like a friend giving advice rather than someone lecturing me. She's great.
