Psychotherapist
MO
Hi there, I'm Sharon! For the past 20 years, I have practiced strengths-based therapies with a strong emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT. I believe that each of us is the expert in our own story. I have a strong background in Trauma and PTSD, which often includes practice in addiction treatment. My approach My approach to therapy is that the clinician and the client are co-creators in future chapters of the client's new story. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy teaches new ways to think about old problems and new pathways to a better future. The new approach to the old story is all about getting unstuck from trauma, addiction, and crisis. My focus My clients typically have early childhood trauma, sexual abuse, combat trauma, or the trauma that springs from addiction. Low self-esteem, anxiety, substance use, nightmares, and fear are frequently the result of rejection and violence (emotional or physical). I feel such hope for clients who present with these problems because a client/clinician partnership can absolutely set the tone for a hopeful future. My communication style My clients know I like to tell stories. The stories are a collection of victories and allegories that illuminate, encourage, and strengthen. I like to hear my clients' stories because that sets the direction for the therapeutic environment. They are the starting points for a successful journey. My journey to mental healthcare It seems that most all of my life, people just seem to feel comfortable telling me their secrets, plans, and dreams. I find people infinitely interesting and diverse. After raising my children, I completed college and graduate school in Missouri and Kansas, earning my Master?s in Clinical Social Work from the University of Kansas. I have had various therapists and helpers along the way who gave me the kind of encouragement and hope that I want to give to you. My goals for you Goal setting is one of the most important factors in the first few sessions.
