Shawnah Bass, LPC

Psychotherapist
TX
Hello, I'm Shawnah. Stressors in the world today can be overwhelming, and both anxiety and depression are at a historic high in our current society. A common misconception is that counseling is exclusively for those suffering severe mental illness. This is just not true. I believe that everyone can benefit from the perspective gained through a genuine relationship or partnership with a trained professional who can help navigate the scary waters of life today. My journey in education began at Tarleton State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Social Work and became a licensed LBSW. After working for six years as a social worker, I returned to graduate school and graduated in 2000 from Tarleton State University with a Master of Education and additional college hours to attain my LPC. My professional background includes working within the foster care system, hospice, private practice, and a rural health clinic, providing me with a wealth of experience across various populations. I have a particular passion for working with survivors of all varieties of past trauma and have served as a court liaison and expert witness for the past ten years to advocate for sexual abuse survivors. My approach to therapy is eclectic, as I believe each individual is unique in their life journey. Some of the most common approaches I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. I consider the relationship to be the central and most important aspect of the therapeutic process.
