Getting to know Shaye Mueller

***PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING: Please note that we take Aetna, Quest Behavioral Health, United Healthcare, and Self-Pay options. IF YOU DO NOT SEE YOUR INSURANCE LISTED, OUR FEE PER SESSION IS $150. Please do not book an appointment if these insurances or payment options do not suit your needs. Thank you!*** I always say-words are clumsy! Oftentimes, they don't feel sufficient enough to capture the full essence of your pain, triumphs, and life experiences. This is why I became an art therapist-I believe that all parts of you matter and deserve to be expressed. I hold a Master's in Clinical Counseling from Adler University, and my approach is informed by Somatic Experiencing and Art Therapy. I draw on warmth, creativity, and compassionate curiosity to help you find color and meaning in your life again. Throughout your journey, I will walk alongside you as you find the courage to honor all the beautiful parts that make you whole, no matter what is on your plate. While Somatic Art Therapy is my specialty, it is not required for us to work together-you set the pace, and I will meet you at your level of comfort. I specialize in trauma, anxiety, perinatal mental health, depression, and infertility.

What should a new client know about working with you?

At Cactus Counseling & Art Therapy, clients have the unique opportunity to fuse their counseling experience with the dynamic healing approaches of Art Therapy and Somatic Experiencing. Somatic art therapy offers a unique and holistic approach to mental health that integrates both the body and creative expression. These approaches help foster a safe haven for clients to find release from the tension they feel.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Session structure depends on my client’s needs. Treatment typically begins with assessing your needs, goals, and creating a plan to help achieve your desired outcome. For those who are interested in art therapy, any art materials you have on hand are welcome! There is no need to go out and purchase materials. Sessions usually involve creating while talking about what feels big in your life. You have the freedom to follow your own creative process, or I am happy to guide you through sessions with a more directive approach. The goal of incorporating art is to help deepen your processing, in whatever way works best for you.
