Sheila Hernandez, MSW

Psychotherapist
FL
The provider is a Registered Clinical Social Worker Intern. Many of the women I work with have already been to therapy. They understand their patterns. They can explain their childhood. They are insightful, capable, and often the strong one in their family. But despite all of that, they still feel stuck. They may struggle with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, relationship patterns that repeat, difficulty setting boundaries, or a persistent sense of self doubt. They know why they do what they do, but their nervous system has not caught up. My work focuses on helping women and mothers move beyond coping and insight and into lasting change by addressing root causes. I specialize in trauma informed therapy using EMDR and nervous system regulation. Rather than only talking about challenges, we work directly with the memories, experiences, and body based patterns that continue to drive them. Many of my clients come to me saying, “I have done therapy before, but I need something deeper.” That is exactly the work we do here.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is active, collaborative, and depth oriented. We will absolutely talk, reflect, and build insight. But we will also go further. I integrate EMDR, nervous system regulation, and parts work when appropriate. This allows us to work at the level where patterns were formed, rather than just managing symptoms on the surface. You can expect: -A calm, structured space -Clear direction and intention for sessions -Education about how trauma and stress impact the brain and body -Tools to regulate your nervous system in real time -Deeper processing when you are ready I work especially well with women who are high functioning but internally exhausted, mothers who want to break generational patterns, and women who feel disconnected from their sense of self after years of surviving. If you are looking for short term coping skills only, I may not be the best fit. If you are ready to address the root and create real shifts, we will work well together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session focuses on understanding your story, current challenges, and goals. We explore patterns, early experiences, and how your nervous system responds to stress today. From there, we create a clear treatment plan together. Early sessions often focus on: -Building safety and stabilization -Strengthening internal resources -Nervous system regulation skills When appropriate, we move into EMDR to process specific memories or experiences that continue to influence your present reactions, relationships, or self belief. A typical session may include: -Check in and tracking progress -Identifying a target or theme -Regulating the nervous system with breathwork, movement, meditation, or a combination -Processing with EMDR or parts based work -Integration and reflection My approach is structured but flexible. We move at a pace that feels steady and manageable, while still creating meaningful forward movement. The goal is not just symptom reduction, but helping you feel more anchored, confident, and connected to who you are now.
