Shelby Duran, LCSW

Shelby Duran, LCSW

Psychotherapist
3047 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL
I became a therapist to provide a supportive space for people who need it. My goal is to make mental health care accessible and inclusive, especially for those who may not have felt welcome in traditional spaces. I believe that when we support one individual, we strengthen entire communities. So much of this work is about reducing the stigma around seeking help and acknowledging the impact of intergenerational trauma. I’ve seen firsthand how much growth and healing can happen simply by sitting with someone you trust in a nonjudgmental space. My hope is that those I work with feel welcomed, understood, and empowered to grow at their own pace.

Getting to know Shelby Duran

I became a therapist to provide a supportive space for people who need it. My goal is to make mental health care accessible and inclusive, especially for those who may not have felt welcome in traditional spaces. I believe that when we support one individual, we strengthen entire communities. So much of this work is about reducing the stigma around seeking help and acknowledging the impact of intergenerational trauma. What should a new client know about working with you?

I provide individual therapy to adolescents and adults, with a special focus on trauma and PTSD. Trauma can shape so many areas of our lives, sometimes in ways we do not even realize. My work in trauma therapy also includes supporting people through depression, anxiety, ADHD, life transitions, and more. I also value the mind–body connection and understand how emotional stress can impact chronic conditions and overall well-being. By tending to your mental and emotional health, we’re caring for the whole self—body, mind, and everything in between.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach to therapy is relational and collaborative, as I believe the therapeutic relationship is central to healing. Growth happens when you feel seen, heard, and understood without judgment. I work from an anti-oppressive framework, acknowledging the ways systemic barriers, trauma, and life experiences shape our emotional and physical well-being. My role is to show up as an advocate and partner in your healing, not as the expert on your life. Using a strengths-based approach, I focus on empowering you to recognize your own resilience and inner resources. Whether you’re returning to therapy or taking the first step, I’m honored to walk alongside you in your healing journey. I know that healing is not linear and that every person’s path looks different. There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to therapy, and that belief guides the way I show up for each client.
