Hello, my name is Shelby Ruman. Thank you for taking the time to view my profile. I earned my Master's in Clinical Psychology from Benedictine University, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support my clients effectively. I understand that finding a new counselor can be an intimidating process. My main goal when working with you is to create a judgment-free environment. I work hard to approach every client with the same warmth and understanding so they can feel comfortable. It is important to me to create an empathetic environment that fosters growth and a collaborative relationship. No person's story or journey in therapy is the same, and because of this, I tailor my clients' care to their individual needs.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work through an integrative approach with a heavy emphasis on evidence-based treatments. I utilize interventions from ACT, CBT, Narrative therapy, DBT, and mindfulness techniques. I offer both individual therapy and couple’s therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My passion is working with individuals encountering grief and life transitions, and those struggling with or navigating through substance use/addiction, as well as anxiety, depression, and stress management. Most importantly, I pride myself on being a multiculturally sensitive counselor who strives to work with people of any background or identity.
