Hi there, I'm Shell! Shell Freeman MSW, LCSW My approach My career has been predominantly built on the person-in-environment theory. I believe considering the individual experiences of clients allows for the use of dialectical approaches that focus on strengths and individuality. My focus Because of my training as a Dialectical Behavioral Therapist, my typical client is looking for assistance in emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance. Personality disorders and mood disorders are conditions I most frequently treat. My communication style My tone is compassionate and honest, established through evidence-based practices. Working with me feels inviting, accepting, empowering, and consistent. My journey to mental healthcare I earned my Master's in Social Work from Wayne State University. My career goals were developed through years of volunteer experiences with family and community groups. I became interested in and moved by providing resources and observing how those resources brought change in people's lives. Assisting individuals in removing barriers to progress and developing lives worth living drives my motivation to stay informed and competent. My goals for you Goal setting is unique for each client, and I strongly believe my clients are the experts on themselves and therefore should guide the goal-setting process. Client-driven, client-centered goals create buy-in for the therapy process. My first session with you Clients can expect warm engagement, clarity about what I can offer, and an opportunity to receive feedback that is affirming, validating, and supportive. My aim is to assist each client with preparing for goal setting and achievement.
