Getting to know Shelley Rychener
Hello! Congratulations on taking the first step toward becoming a better you! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan and over 28 years of professional experience. I have successfully helped clients with issues such as stress and anxiety, life changes, family conflicts, motivation, self-esteem and confidence, and depression.
I will work with you to develop a treatment plan that effectively meets your needs and increases overall happiness and life satisfaction. Currently, I provide teletherapy appointments for clients and am accepting new clients across the state of Michigan who have BCBS Traditional Plans, BCBS Mental Health Plans, BCN, BCBS PPO, and Anthem BCBS. What should a new client know about working with you?
My style of therapy is very upfront, as I have found that being direct with clients (and them being direct as well) has been the most effective way to progress through challenges. At the same time, I work hard to treat everyone with respect and compassion. I also love to laugh, and utilize humor as part of my therapy regularly.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
I will take the first couple of sessions to get to know you as a whole person and allow you to get to know me, as I strongly believe that developing a good rapport is key to an effective therapeutic relationship.
Through our sessions we will develop a plan that helps you to meet your goals. I am a fan of cognitive behavioral and positive psychology therapies, but I do tend to pull from other modalities to tailor a plan that is best suited to each of my clients.
