Shelly Bourquin, LCSW

Psychotherapist
WI
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience in the mental health field in varying capacities. I consistently strive to?provide an individual treatment?approach that includes increasing positive coping skills, changing self-awareness, and?encouraging each person to find joy and hope in their daily lives. My approach I believe strength comes in many forms, which may even be masked in poor coping skills developed to survive life, and especially trauma. Together, we can find new, positive coping skills that can be cultivated to champion that big step out of survival mode and to inspire the ability to live in the moment. My focus No one is immune to needing support at some point or another in life. Working with individuals who recognize the need for multi-layered treatment that includes a focus on behaviors, trauma, mental health,?and?building resilience as a map used to overcome the impact of mental health symptoms and addiction. My communication style It is imperative to develop rapport with individuals, especially when discomfort is elevated and trust can be depleted. Problem-solving is essential to success, but being an open and judgment-free listener is the first step in building the important therapeutic relationship needed to accept change. My journey to mental healthcare After serving 4 years in the US Navy and completing college, I began working with children struggling with autism and behavior concerns. Eventually, I became a licensed clinical?social worker, where I strive to offer a unique approach to mental health and addiction, having worked in crisis intervention, inpatient addiction, and clinically (all of the above) with military and military families. My goals for you Learning to forgive others is an important approach to healing, but learning to forgive ourselves is the key to emotional freedom and contentment.
