Getting to know Sherry Wu

As a dedicated Mental Health Counselor with a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Queens College, City University of New York, I am passionate about supporting individuals on their journeys to healing and personal growth. I believe in a Rogerian person-centered approach, fostering self-awareness and empowering clients to reconnect with their purpose. Some other therapeutic techniques I like to apply include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychoeducation, Solution-Based Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Gestalt Therapy. I have developed a keen understanding of the complexities of mental health, particularly within the AAPI community. Coming from a Chinese American background, I specialize in addressing issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, life transitions, and family dynamics. I am committed to helping individuals navigate their unique cultural experiences while also having the privilege of working with clients from a variety of diverse backgrounds. My strengths in empathy and goal orientation enable me to connect deeply with clients, guiding them toward achieving their mental wellness goals. I am a firm believer that we all have the ability to find peace—it is within you. This will be a space to explore that and tap into your full potential.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When working with clients, initially, my primary goal is to meet them where they are in their journey. I create an environment where clients can open up at their own comfort levels, allowing them to explore and work through their personal goals at their own pace. While I may gently challenge them to promote growth, I ensure that our sessions remain a safe space. My overarching aim is to help clients develop sustainable wellness strategies that empower them to navigate daily life with confidence and resilience.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My therapeutic style is laid-back and conversational but also informative, aimed at fostering a comfortable environment where clients feel at ease. Building trust is essential for creating an open and genuine therapeutic relationship, allowing us to explore your identity on a deeper level, including your experiences and habits. Together, we will set SMART goals and actively work toward achieving them, equipping you with tools that you can apply throughout your life. Throughout this process, I will offer unconditional positive regard, encouragement, guidance, and gentle challenges to help you reach your goals.

I truly appreciate the way Sherry was such a genuine, kind and thoughtful person during our first session. I felt so seen and heard ;I can’t wait to go forward with Sherry in the future. She was so professional, empathetic on how she went about my problems and I’m looking forward for our future sessions.
Sherry is truly phenomenal. From the very first session, she created a space that felt safe, warm, and completely judgment free. She listens with real intention, asks thoughtful questions, and somehow always helps me see things more clearly without ever making me feel rushed or misunderstood.Sherry has an incredible balance of compassion and insight. She’s supportive when I need reassurance and gently challenging when I need growth. I’ve gained tools, confidence, and a much deeper understanding of myself through our work together.
I really enjoyed my first session with Sherry. I was a little nervous since it was my first time trying therapy, but she was incredibly welcoming and took the time to walk me through the entire process. As the session went on, I felt more and more comfortable, which made the experience feel safe and reassuring.
She is one of the most caring and compassionate people I’ve ever worked with. She listened to me with so much patience and understanding, and I never once felt judged or dismissed. Her presence alone brought comfort during some of my hardest moments.
My experience with Ms.Wu has been amazing. From the very first session, she made me feel completely comfortable and at ease. I was initially skeptical about therapy, but her approach has truly changed my perspective. I feel heard, supported, and understood, and I genuinely look forward to continuing my sessions with her.
She spent so much time talking about late cancellation policy and the booking system- im not paying you to listen to your admin stuff. When i shared my situation with her her response felt lifeless and it doesnt feel like she’s listening. Just doesnt think she is very attentive.

She referred to me by my pronouns and asked good questions and did not judge me. So excited for the next session I feel like I could open up to her and be vulnerable.
