Sheryl Dunn, LCSW

Sheryl Dunn, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
My educational background includes a bachelor's and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Norfolk State University. Clinical training has been gathered in a number of settings, including private practice, care coordination, hospice, bereavement, as well as integrated care in an acute care facility. My approach My experience in the behavioral health field has varied from direct case management for resource linkage, care coordination for a holistic approach to wellness, to therapy for clinically sound perspective and intervention. My background has centered on diverse populations who may have historically felt unheard or unsupported in treatment. I consider this work an honor and look forward to the opportunity to work with you! My focus I cater to a large group of clientele inclusive of young adults, college-age adults, all stages of adulthood, as well as older adults. I specialize in working with underserved populations within the BIPOC community. In my experience, while attending an HBCU, I was able to grasp an outlook on providing evidence-based clinical care and support that truly meets the client where they are, acknowledging specific stressors and building upon healthy coping mechanisms to address life challenges. My communication style Please expect to receive an engaged posture with objective feedback from me. Monotones are not offered in sessions with me. I will use authentic and objective feedback while integrating an engaged tone, posture, and active listening throughout each session we share together. My journey to mental healthcare Becoming a therapist became a goal once I understood that I could aid more people by being empathetic with evidence-based interventions and genuine support than I ever could by being sympathetic. I want to help pull you out of this uncomfortable space that has brought you to therapy; I wouldn’t be much help jumping in with you. I have been trained in the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
