Getting to know Shikeena Lynard

I have been a teaching grades K-12 since 2013 and a Therapist since 2022. I bring a wealth of knowledge in mind body connection. In addition, I have a passion for Social Emotional Learning integrated with Executive Functioning skills. I focus on how our daily functioning plays a role on our mental health. I feel strongly about the fact that when it comes to our mental health, we can not get to the root of our presenting problems until we identify our challenges with social emotional learning and executive functioning skills. While my background in education helps me greatly while working with clients ages 7-18; I have found great success in working with adults as well. I have worked with clients experiencing challenges with ADHD, ASD, Anxiety, and Depression to name a few. In addition, I have worked with LGBTQIA+ clients as well. I believe that leading with understanding is a great start when helping others to understand themselves.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a therapist, I lead with educating my clients. BY utilizing CBT techniques and Motivational Interviewing, clients are able to learn themselves. To reinforce what is covered during session, the clients leave session with attainable task to accomplish. Small changes lead to lifestyles changes.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When working with a new client, I like to begin with an introductory phone call. I feel that this is extremely important for scheduling and building rapport. During the first session, the client can expect for me to gather background information and complete a few in session assessments. By the 3rd or 4th session, the client can expect to have a solid treatment plan with established goals, objectives and interventions. The planning stage is just as important as building rapport. Sessions will be conducted at the client's pace. I believe that it is extremely important for the client to build the confidence to lead and the assertiveness to say that they are or are not ready to discuss an issue.
