Getting to know Shirley Gonsalves

I work with teens (14+), and adults, and offer individual, couples, and family therapy. I am Level 1 Trained in the Gottman Method and use it in my approach for couples therapy. What should a new client know about working with you?

I use evidence-based approaches tailored to each client, including Person-Centered Therapy (supportive, client-led), CBT (changing unhelpful thoughts), DBT (coping and emotion skills), Trauma-Focused Therapy, Narrative, Gestalt, ACT, Internal Family Systems, Hypnotherapy, and the Gottman Method for couples.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I strive to create a warm, supportive, and inclusive space where you feel safe, seen, and heard. A space where healing is not rushed but nurtured, and where therapy becomes a collaborative process, not just a clinical one. Ultimately, my aim is for therapy to feel accessible, empowering, and stigma-free because everyone deserves to feel mentally and emotionally well.
