Getting to know Shobha Vaidyanathan

You are an adult feeling overwhelmed and burnt out. You excel at work, but your inner critic keeps holding you back. Anxiety and sadness nag at you, and you are unsure why. You value others but often put yourself last in relationships, struggling to express your needs respectfully. Conflicts with your partner are straining your connection. As a parent, you care deeply but feel stuck setting boundaries with your child regarding their screen time or other concerns. You are struggling to communicate meaningfully with your teen. You want an LGBTQ+-safe space to explore your gender identity and sexual orientation while balancing your family's cultural values. You are wondering if therapy is right for you. I Get It!! I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from The University of Utah, and I am here to support you through these challenges with understanding and care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I can help you quiet your inner critic, accept yourself, and value your needs. In our therapy sessions, together we will tackle your anxiety and sadness, find coping strategies for burnout, and work toward a better work-life balance. I can guide you in reconnecting and communicating with your partner and your teen, and will help you set boundaries that are both gentle and firm. I will be your steadfast ally as you explore your gender identity and/or sexual orientation. I will work with you to create a plan to help you express your feelings to your family in a way that honors your cultural values.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A session is 55 minutes for individuals and 90 minutes for couples. Taking the first step can feel scary, especially if you’re used to putting others first. But once you’re here, you’ll feel valued and respected. In our sessions, I’ll learn more about your concerns, and together we’ll work on tools to help with anxiety, depression, or relationship challenges.
