Getting to know Silvia Arias

My name is Silvia B. Arias, and I am a trilingual (Spanish, German, and English) Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York, specializing in adults who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, or navigating challenging life transitions. I hold a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Fordham University, earned in 2016, and a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, completed in 2011. I have extensive experience across diverse mental health settings, including psychiatric facilities, college counseling centers, and behavioral health clinics. Proficient in Spanish and German, I have had the privilege of working closely with the Hispanic population, gaining a deep understanding of their culture and background. I believe self-healing involves both mind and body, and that clients are the experts of their own journeys. As your therapist, I use an eclectic approach, with a primary focus on cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, solution-focused, and person-centered modalities. My background working with Hispanic clients enriches my ability to provide culturally sensitive care. Beginning this difficult journey alone is not easy. Allow me to walk beside you and guide you through this process toward your path of self-healing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am warm and caring and try to help all of my clients feel respected and as comfortable as possible.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

While therapy can be somewhat intimidating for many, I approach all of my sessions with my clients as normal one-to-one conversations in an effort to eliminate any discomfort. It may feel like we are having regular day-to-day conversations together with the added layer of guidance and tools to help you cope and get you through the challenging situations you may be coming in with.
