Psychotherapist
NY
Hi! I am a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) based in New York. Art therapy has been widely recognized for its potential to foster healing and personal growth, particularly in addressing mental health challenges and promoting emotional well-being. My clinical art therapy experience includes adult inpatient psychiatry, addiction recovery center, as well as outpatient mental health care. I have been working with people from all backgrounds and in particular, with immigrant families facing many levels of adversities for the past few years. My practice is deeply rooted in my own experience as well as informed by those around me. My approach is relational, person-centered, trauma-informed, and strength-based. While I value my clinical training, I also believe therapy is beyond labels or diagnoses. I aim to build connections with you through a humanistic lens, with curiosity, warmth, and respect for your lived experience. My own creative journey is the most important guiding force in my professional art therapy practice. I am active in many creative art forms, including creating visual art, dancing, performing, acting, and others. I experience the powerful ways that creativity can help with growth and healing daily, and firmly believe that we can all be nourished through art. I am experienced in incorporating different forms of expression during therapy sessions. In art therapy, the ways for self-expression are endless: drawing, painting, collage, sculpture making, movement and dance, creative writing, acting, music, vocal explorations, imaginative play, and so much more.

What should a new client know about working with you?

If you are curious about healing and exploring yourself through art, I am here for you. All levels of creative experience are welcome. If you are new to the creative world and are looking to start your creative healing journey, I am happy to start it with you in supportive and engaging ways. If you are already a professional artist and are looking to expand your professional vocabulary into therapy, I will be honored to deepen the journey with you. If you have been feeling stuck in life or in your art and want to reconnect with the artistic part of you, I will help you find inspiration and build new connections.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The body and the soul are a bonded pair, they move together, breathe together, remember together, and heal together. I see art-making in therapy as an embodied and meaningful process that can foster and support mindfulness, autonomy and agency, nervous system regulation, as well as hope and resilience. When we follow our intuition and let color, sound, image, and movement lead us, something within us begins to soften and awaken. We feel connected again, with ourselves and with the world around us. And in that healthy interconnectedness, healing and growth begin to unfold. When you feel creative and inspired, life energy starts to flow and the heart will feel more open. To express, to be seen, to be heard, and to belong — this is how therapy is and how life is. Therapy is a collaborative process. I am excited to start this journey with you. Are you ready to begin this magical journey with me?
