Psychotherapist
7660 Woodway Dr, Ste 585, Houston, TX
Sofia Gonzalez is supervised by Rick Musquiz. LCSWS. Parenting can feel overwhelming when meltdowns, anxiety, ADHD, autism spectrum concerns, trauma, or attachment struggles begin affecting daily life at home. You may feel exhausted by emotional outbursts, behavioral challenges, school difficulties, family conflict, or constant worry about how to best support your child. I’m a child and family therapist in Houston providing therapy for children, parents, couples, and families who want calmer homes, stronger relationships, better emotional regulation, and more confidence navigating life’s challenges together. I specialize in Play Therapy, EMDR, and attachment-focused therapy. Children often express big feelings through play before they can put them into words, so I meet kids where they are, using play to help them process emotions, build coping skills, and heal from difficult experiences. For children and adults affected by trauma, EMDR can help ease the weight of painful memories. I work with families navigating ADHD, autism and neurodivergence, child anxiety, grief, trauma, behavioral challenges, self-esteem struggles, and parent-child conflict. I also support parents directly with parenting strategies that feel realistic and connected, and I help couples strengthen communication as they parent together. I see clients in person at Fowler & Tidwell Counseling in the Galleria area and through secure online therapy (telehealth). I welcome families of every background, culture, structure, and identity. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially when everyone’s needs feel high. You don’t have to handle it alone. Together, we’ll help your child and family feel more connected, understood, and supported in everyday life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

ITherapy with me is warm, playful, and judgment-free, for kids and parents alike. Children don’t have to sit still or have the right words; we use play, art, and movement so they can express themselves in ways that feel natural and safe. Parents are an important part of the process. You’ll never be left wondering what’s happening in sessions. I’ll partner with you, share practical strategies you can use at home, and help you understand what may be driving your child’s behavior so you can respond with more confidence and less stress. Here’s how I can help: Play Therapy: helping children work through anxiety, big emotions, grief, and life changes through play. EMDR: supporting children, teens, and adults in processing trauma and distressing experiences. Attachment-focused therapy: strengthening the parent-child bond and building trust and connection. ADHD, autism, and neurodivergent support: building emotional regulation, coping skills, and self-esteem in a neurodiversity-affirming way. Couples and co-parenting: improving communication so you can parent as a team. Sessions are available in person in Houston or online, depending on what fits your family best.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Every family is different, so I tailor our work to your child’s age, needs, and your family’s goals. Intake session: Before your first session with me, you’ll meet with a member of our clinical team for an intake appointment. This is where we complete paperwork and initial assessments, so our time together can focus fully on your family. Parent consultation: For child clients, I often begin by meeting with parents or caregivers to learn about your child’s history, strengths, struggles, and what you’d like to see change at home or school. Getting to know your child: Early sessions focus on building trust and safety. Through play and conversation, I learn how your child experiences their world. Building skills and healing: Using Play Therapy, EMDR, and attachment-focused approaches, we work on emotional regulation, coping skills, processing difficult experiences, and strengthening family connection. Parents receive practical tools to support progress between sessions. Family and parent sessions: When helpful, we bring parents, siblings, or co-parents into sessions to improve communication and work through conflict together. Reviewing progress: We check in regularly on what’s working and adjust our approach as your child and family grow. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially when everyone’s needs feel high. You don’t have to handle it alone.
