Getting to know Sophia Dupree

My name is Sophia J. Dupree, and I am the founder and owner of Chirpy Tree Therapy. I created Chirpy Tree Therapy to support women in all phases of life, with a special focus on providing a space for mothers to vent about all aspects of motherhood. Whether you're trying to conceive, currently pregnant, or gave birth within the past year, I am here to support you! A little about me and how I got here: I am a Los Angeles native who grew up in a culturally diverse home—my mother is from El Salvador, and my father is half Black and half English. I faced many obstacles as a child, including chronic stress, poverty, and a family history of mental illness. It was through this journey that I discovered my passion for helping others. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from California State University, Northridge, and have received extensive clinical training in family work, with an emphasis on children and teens. I have been a clinical social worker for over 12 years and have also worked in medical social work, where I supported adult patients in primary care. It was during this time that I was introduced to and trained in maternal mental health through Maternal Mental Health Now! Currently, I work for the Los Angeles Unified School District, supporting children, teens, and families through my clinical work. I became a mother of two later in life, which deepened my passion for supporting women, adults, and expecting families. I want to remind families that they are in the driver’s seat—I am merely a passenger. My role is to help you understand how you got on this road, explore possible paths, and guide you on your chosen journey.
