What should a new client know about working with you?

Are you experiencing a feeling of hopelessness while going through a life change? Are you grieving the loss of a loved one, a relationship, or a career path you once cherished? Perhaps you are living with addiction, or with someone who does. Is your mental and/or physical health now at a breakpoint? Any one of these challenging life events could be enough to push even the healthiest person into a place they have never been before. But often life's traumas cascade, one after another, into a whirlpool of dread, and keeping your head above water can feel next to impossible. I want you to know that your feeling of overwhelm is valid and that you do not need to go it alone. As a Clinical Social Worker and therapist with a Master's in Clinical Social Work from The University of Utah, I have experience in both inpatient care and community mental health, working with adults and seniors. Helping people put themselves back together as they weather life's storms is my life's work. Through a patient centered approach, I can help you tease out both the big “T” and small “t” traumas, that inform your world view, color your perceptions, govern your behaviors, and prompt the reactions you are having to all that you are currently grappling with.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I use CBT when working with clients to examine thought patterns that no longer serve you. In your first session, we'll explore what brings you to therapy now, and then identify patterns that inform your approach to current issues that you are facing. From there, it's a practical approach using DBT practices of Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation and Interpersonal Effectiveness.
