Getting to know Sophie Elliott
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and I work entirely online with adults in New York, Connecticut, and Utah. Trauma and addiction are the heart of my practice, and I also work with anxiety, depression, and grief. What should a new client know about working with you?
Most of the people I see are carrying trauma, living with addiction, or both, and they have usually been managing it on their own for a long time. You might be holding something that happened
years ago that still shapes how you move through the world. You might be in active addiction, or worn out from loving somebody who is. What you can expect from me is steadiness rather than
alarm, and a pace that you set. I will not ask you to hand over the worst thing that ever happened to you in the first session..
What is your typical process for working with clients?
In a first session we look at what has brought you here now, and I listen a great deal more than I talk. From there we map the patterns that are keeping you stuck and agree on what we are genuinely working toward. I work in a trauma informed way and draw on CBT and DBT, so you will leave with practical tools as well as insight. We usually start weekly and adjust as things change.
