Spencer Thorpe, LCSW

Psychotherapist
1046 E Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL
Hello, my name is Spencer Thorpe and I am a Licensed Clinical Social worker, and a former Registered Behavior Technician (2018-2024). I have received my undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Tampa, and my Master of Social Work from the University of South Florida. My clinical work experience includes providing psychotherapy to patient’s at Tampa General Hospital, and Children’s Home. I also have extensive experience working with children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, children who have trauma, and children in the foster care system. I have expertise providing therapy to families as well as teaching parenting interventions. My goal is to help you achieve your goal. The road to your goals may not be easy, and there are often no “correct” answers. However, working collaboratively with data driven theory and technique, we can effect positive change. Therapy takes time and hard work but has great potential to create lasting change for the better. I am extensively trained in working with and shaping behavior, but recognize behavior can be a form of communication with deeper underlying challenges being present. Therefore, my therapeutic style seeks to balance treatment of observable and measurable behavior using behavior therapy, while using talk and play based therapies to address not so obvious challenges. Talk and play based therapies can include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and techniques that frequently borrow from solution focused, trauma informed, psychoanalytical and developmental theories and practices. Seeking treatment for therapy does not mean you are flawed, incapable, or broken. It does not mean your children are any of those either. Seeking treatment signifies your readiness to address challenges in your life or the lives of your children that you wish to change and address. It means you are taking the first step in acknowledging the need for improved well-being.
