Getting to know Stacie Sexton

Stacie Sexton (she/they) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and reproductive justice organizer based in Lexington, Kentucky. Her primary identity markers include non-binary gender, Autistic, and Appalachian. Previously, Stacie served as staff therapist at Better Mental Health KY and Project Director of Kentucky Health Justice Network’s All Access EKY, a program to bring comprehensive birth control to coalfield Kentuckians. She has previously worked with Appalshop in Whitesburg, KY, completed research with Homeward Bound in Asheville, NC to guide interventions for incarcerated LGBTQ+ women in Buncombe County, and published additional peer-reviewed research on queer representations in new media. She currently serves on the Social Services Advisory Board for Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. Stacie holds membership with American Association for Sexuality Educators Counselors and Therapists (AASECT), World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), and Kentucky Society for Clinical Social Work (KSCSW). She received her MSW from the University of Kentucky, BA in Gender and Sexuality Studies from UNC Asheville, and certificate in sex therapy from the University of Michigan.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that an individualized approach to therapy is the most important part of reclaiming function, regulation, and pleasure in our lives. I am most passionate about working with folks experiencing sexual wellness concerns, complex trauma, general anxiety, neurodiversity, and gender questioning/identity exploration. I understand that it is difficult to find a trauma-informed therapist who is identity and disability affirming; I have years of experience with helping folks in marginalized communities meet their wellness goals. I'm happy to speak with you about how to incorporate therapy into your journey.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session will be geared toward getting to know each other and exploring your reasons for seeking therapy. I will always do my best to make our first meeting feel safe, cozy, and as fun as you want it to be.

Initial session: $150 for 60 minutes

Ongoing session: $125 for 60 minutes

Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork

I currently accept commercial plans for Anthem, BCBC, Aetna, Cigna, and Quest. I will accept select Medicaid plans beginning in early 2026.
