“For a while when I was therapist "shopping", I'd find therapists that didn't quite know what I needed since I have worked on and grown a lot in my mental health journey on my own. I would often get comments or advice that I felt didn't feel apply to my current mental health situation and didn't feel very helpful. This was frustrating as I was coming to therapy because I felt like I had done the work I knew I could do on my own and felt like I needed help, and I was met by therapists sending me the definitions of therapy vocabulary for the 20th time. Stacy has listened to my concerns and has made me feel validated. She has given me advice and guidance that I felt was appropriate for where I'm at. Stacy is understanding, kind, validating, and professional. She has given great insight to my issues. She has created a welcoming, nonjudgemental space. She has been supportive and flexible in scheduling and communication.”

Getting to know Stacy Benedict

I have been a therapist for over 20 years, and I enjoy it more and more with each passing year. I love hearing people's life stories, which means I will make sure you know you are heard and understood. I hold a Master's in Family Therapy from Texas Woman's University. Currently, I work with adolescents and adults of all ages via telehealth. I address a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, perinatal mental health, women's issues, chronic illness, life transitions, and more. Together, we will work on immediate symptom management as well as getting to the root of your challenges. As a Latina woman, it is important to me to make everyone feel understood and accepted. My practice is BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ friendly, and gender affirming. I look forward to meeting you!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe in giving you what you come to therapy for: an understanding ear, skills to improve your life, but also honest and candid feedback. I grew up in a multi-cultural, multi-generational home. My entire childhood was preparing me for a career as a counselor. I learned in my family that even the smallest actions affected our family in big ways. I still believe this to be true. I want to know about your present and your past. My goal is to help you now, but I also want to learn what brought you to this moment. We will set goals early on, and I will give you homework to do between sessions so that you have the opportunity to try things in real time. I work from a variety of theories and employ techniques from them all. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, family systems theory, and solution-focused therapy. I offer a limited number of sliding scale slots per month.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Before we meet, I will have you complete some paperwork telling me a little bit about your current symptoms and background. I might have you complete some assessments depending on your presenting problems. I will review these before our first session, and we will go over them together as well. We will set goals for your treatment as we go along. I will give you homework to help you progress through therapy. This may be worksheets, journaling, simply noticing things in your daily life, or reading I think is pertinent to your life and situation. I aim to help you achieve your goals as quickly, efficiently, and painlessly as possible!
