Getting to know Starr Sullivan

Hi there, I'm Starr Sullivan, LMFT! I hold a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Antioch University. My approach to therapy is to provide a safe space for people to talk about their lives and challenges without judgment. I focus on offering the tools and support needed for those I work with to accomplish their personal development and growth goals. People are unique, and therefore therapy can be too. I am flexible with my approach to best meet the needs of each individual. I often draw from positive psychology, person-centered therapy, CBT, DBT, and object relations theory. I also bring 17 years of experience working with family systems and alcoholism/addiction treatment. Most clients I work with seek relief from depression, anxiety, relationship or communication challenges, low self-worth/esteem, addiction, and co-dependency. The tone of my sessions is based on warmth, care, kindness, compassion, and authenticity. I love people. Sometimes we all need an unbiased, non-judgmental ear to express ourselves to. What drives me as a therapist is my desire to help people find the happiness and joy they deserve, overcome obstacles, talk through current or past issues, and support them in becoming the healthiest and most fulfilled version of themselves. After a client shares what they would like support with—whether symptom reduction, healthy communication, anger management, or other goals—we collaboratively set goals that are both challenging and realistic. In our first session, I aim to set the stage for our work together by getting to know you better, learning about your history, and understanding what brings you to therapy at this time. From there, we build a strong rapport and work toward helping you meet your goals.
