Getting to know Stephanie Barnes

Hello, my name is Stephanie Barnes and I am excited to meet you! Together, we'll get to know each other a little more and find a pathway to work on your concerns in our therapy sessions. I specialize in grief issues, adjustment to chronic illness and disability, and depressive disorders. I work best with clients who are active and engaged in assignments, homework, and activities to assist in their progress. I believe that the therapy process is a shared one with the primary focus being the needs of the client with guidance from the therapist. I allow the client to share what they feel they need with as minimal questioning as possible. I will ask for clarification and try to guide the client to find their own answers and make changes. I have 40 years of experience in the field of counseling, including roles as a direct service provider, supervisor, and counselor educator. I have been licensed and certified since 1996. I recently underwent a dual liver and kidney transplant, which certainly put many things about life into perspective. I believe every day is a gift and bad things can bring greater lessons than good experiences can. I focus on even very small steps as being huge in terms of personal change.
