Getting to know Stephanie Billman

My name is Stephanie Billman and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I have been practicing psychotherapy for 27 years and specialize in abuse, trauma and early childhood deprivation. I believe that a warm and nonjudgmental approach are key in developing a therapeutic environment that helps to create a safe place for people to tell their story.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work from a psychodynamic perspective which emphasizes the role of how one's unconscious mental processes and early childhood experiences are often responsible for shaping future personality, behavior, and emotions. In my work as a therapist I have found that exploring the family of origin is important in helping individuals identify how past relationships can often lead to current feelings of guilt and shame. Once an individual recognizes these early childhood dynamics, they often learn new ways to cope with present day stressors and heal from any past traumas.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

At the first session together, you will be able to tell your story in order to help with identifying problematic areas that you would like to focus on. I will support you throughout your therapeutic journey in order for healing to take place so you can attain a sense of personal empowerment.
