Getting to know Stephanie Harris
Therapy is about you. Wherever you are in life or whatever your struggle may be, we can work through it together. I trust that through our collaboration, we will create the life you want for yourself.
I am a mental health counselor originally from Vermont, and I try to bring the down-to-earth nature of Vermont into the city life of Chicago in my work with others.
I studied Psychology at the University of Vermont, minoring in Spanish and Film/Television Studies. I earned my Master's degree in Community Counseling from Argosy University and completed my Doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) at Roosevelt University. In addition to private practice, I have experience working in community mental health, employee assistance programs (EAP), and hospital settings. I have supported people struggling with substance abuse and gambling addictions, survivors of sexual abuse, individuals with developmental disabilities, women going through divorce, and members of the Latino population. I offer individual, couples, and group counseling.
Through my work, I have developed a particular interest in trauma and recovery from injustice. Injustices can happen to anyone, and I believe one of my most important responsibilities as a therapist is to help people cope with these experiences. When someone experiences injustice or severe trauma, their sense of safety in the world can be altered. It is my job to help people reclaim their security and find new meaning in these difficult experiences.
To help with this, I have a pug named Bernie. He has been with me since he was a puppy and has brought happiness to many with his playful energy and silly expressions. He is here to love and comfort whoever is near him.
