Getting to know Stephanie Kane

I became a counselor because I want to help people and encourage them to feel heard. When people have a chance to let out what they're holding in and be themselves in a place where they're not going to be judged, they have more of a chance to heal. I hope to hold that space for you in my practice, drawing on close to 10 years in the field and my Master's in Mental Health Counseling from St. Bonaventure University to help make that happen. Some problems that come into our lives, like anxiety, can feel too close and overwhelming, leaving little room to maneuver. When someone feels overwhelmed, I usually teach coping skills and help develop boundaries to keep these problems at a manageable distance so they can live their life the way they want. The opposite can also happen, where depression or trauma feels distant and hard to understand. By exploring your experience together and guiding you through learning more about your situation, we aim to bring that closer so you can begin to resolve what's happening. Often, the solution involves being more compassionate with ourselves and staying connected to our goals to maintain mental health.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I prefer to have close and sincere contact with people; I try to use the genuine connection with my clients to help them approach the problems that they want to work on. Though some therapies try to push people in certain directions, I believe that this is about following your individual healing journey. Journeys like that can be scary at times which is why it can be helpful to have a dedicated partner who's been on a few journeys before to come with you. I hope that you choose me to help you through that struggle!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The beginning of treatment is about building a connection together and building some trust. Together, we'll go through the journey of digging into some of the things that are bothering you, giving you space to share your experience, and validating the progress we make along the way. I frequently check in with my clients to make sure that we're aiming in the right direction, pursuing the right goals, and that they feel that treatment is progressing the way that they want. It's my hope that this leads to a worry-free non-judgemental atmosphere where you can be yourself.

She’s one of the good ones. She very person centered and solution focused, which is what I was looking and what I needed.
I felt like she really cared about what I was going through and what I had to say.
She helped me get out of my head and think of things in a different way.

My visits are always productive. Stephanie is great I always appreciate the feedback she gives as well as the advice and guidance she provides. She also has worksheets and tools that are helpful when requested. I would highly recommend her as a therapist.
I've had a wonderful experience working with Stephanie! She's a great listener and validates my experiences (and gently directs me when my anxiety is taking over!) She also brings incredibly useful tools and strategies to the table to try different approaches to help uncover and work through a root issue. Stephanie is an important part of my improving mental health and I'm so grateful to be able to work together!
Stephanie was a huge help to me postpartum and as a new mom dealing with a lot of new stress and anxiety! She is very easy to talk to.

I felt like I could really talk to her. It was hard for me to open up at first because I had never been to therapy before, but she was very patient and understanding. She gave me the time I needed to feel comfortable to share what I’ve been going through. I’ve always been afraid of rejection or being judged, but she didn’t reject or judge me, she was understanding and accepting. She helped me get through things that I have been struggling with for years. It took some time, but I’m so grateful I found her.
I knew during the first session that I had found my therapist. She was very personable, genuine and made me feel safe and comfortable. I look forward to our sessions every week.
I’m really glad I found her. I just got out of an abusive relationship and I was really struggling with self doubt and blame from it. She made me feel safe sharing my story and I felt like she really cared. I was able to recognize that the abuse wasn’t my fault and she helped me rebuild the pieces of myself. I’m in a much better place and mindset since meeting with her.
I met with Stephanie to work on some childhood trauma that I thought I had already dealt with, but a whole new side to what I experienced reared its ugly head. I felt like I was going crazy because I was telling myself I shouldn’t be letting it bother me, especially because I thought I had already worked through it. I now know that trauma is very complex and that it resurfacing is normal. I felt like Stephanie genuinely cared and that I had someone I could talk to that understands.
Great therapist. Very empathetic and insightful.
I felt heard and validated. Therapy with her was great overall. Stephanie was there for me while I was going through some real life challenges. She was the only one to support me in my journey so I'm grateful.
I was going through a really difficult time in my life, where everything seemed to be happening at once. I felt like I had a safe place to sort things out and see a little bit clearer to get through everything that I was going through.
I didn’t know what validation was until I started having sessions with Stephanie. I felt validated for the first time in my life and learned that it is okay to be human.
