Psychotherapist
TX
I help capable, exhausted adults who are used to being the fixer, helper, overthinker, or “strong one.” Many of my clients look like they are holding everything together on the outside, but internally feel anxious, scattered, self-critical, resentful, disconnected, or overwhelmed by the pressure to keep going. I work with adults navigating anxiety, ADHD, depression, perfectionism, people-pleasing, burnout, grief, life transitions, relational wounds, faith struggles, and painful family dynamics. My goal is to create a space where you do not have to perform, over-explain, or have everything perfectly organized before you show up. My approach is warm, direct, practical, and collaborative. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, attachment-based therapy, Internal Family Systems-informed work, trauma-informed care, strengths-based counseling, and practical skills-building. Together, we will work to understand the patterns that have shaped you, calm the nervous system, strengthen self-trust, build healthier boundaries, and practice new ways of relating to yourself and others. Clients often describe me as genuine, honest, compassionate, and easy to talk to. I use humor when it fits, ask thoughtful questions, and offer practical insight you can use outside of session. I believe therapy should feel safe and supportive, but also useful and honest. For clients who desire it, I am glad to integrate Christian faith into our work in a way that is grounded in grace, compassion, and truth — never shame or pressure. Whether you are feeling stuck, burned out, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward, you do not have to carry it all alone.

Getting to know Stephanie Rettig

What should a new client know about working with you?

A new client should know that therapy with me is warm, honest, practical, and collaborative. I work best with clients who are used to being the capable one, the fixer, the helper, the overthinker, or the person who keeps going even when they are exhausted. You do not have to show up with everything perfectly organized or know exactly where to start. Part of our work together is slowing things down, making sense of what feels confusing or overwhelming, and identifying the patterns that may be keeping you stuck. My style is compassionate and nonjudgmental, but also direct, engaged, and human. I will listen closely, ask thoughtful questions, help you connect the dots, and offer practical insight you can use outside of session. I also use humor when it fits, because therapy can be meaningful, honest, and effective without feeling cold, overly clinical, or heavy all the time. I draw from CBT, attachment-based therapy, Internal Family Systems-informed work, trauma-informed care, strengths-based counseling, and practical skills-building. For clients who desire it, I am also glad to integrate Christian faith in a way that is grounded in grace, compassion, and truth. My goal is for you to feel safe, understood, and supported while also leaving therapy with more clarity, self-trust, emotional steadiness, and tools for real life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with getting to know you as a whole person, not just a list of symptoms. In our first sessions, we will talk about what brought you to therapy, what feels hardest right now, what patterns you have noticed, and what you hope will feel different. A typical session is conversational, collaborative, and practical. We may explore recent situations, relationships, emotions, thoughts, behaviors, family patterns, faith questions, or places where you feel stuck. I will help you slow things down, connect the dots, name what is happening internally, and identify what you need moving forward. I often balance deeper insight with practical tools. This may include working on boundaries, communication, emotional regulation, self-trust, thought patterns, nervous system awareness, coping skills, or new ways of responding instead of reacting. I also use humor when it fits, because therapy can be meaningful and honest without feeling heavy all the time. Over time, our work usually focuses on helping you better understand yourself, reduce shame and self-criticism, build healthier patterns, and feel more steady and grounded in your daily life. For clients who desire it, I am glad to integrate Christian faith into the process in a way that is compassionate, thoughtful, and never pressured.
