“Stephanie has helped me manage my depression a great deal and given me valuable perspectives to carry forth in my day-to-day life. I appreciate her ability to give it to me straight, while also being gentler on tougher days. Of course, our time is almost always productive, but it's nice to get a good laugh in as well. It's the first time I have felt so seen and understood, and I can feel myself healing and growing every session. ”

“Stephanie has been nothing but caring, honest, and thorough in every visit. Each session is dedicated to building a trusting and respectful relationship while also allowing space for vulnerability when comfortable, and humor and relatability when needed. I don't feel rushed or pressured to say anything or rush progress, and in that feel more comfortable sharing and allowing myself to be vulnerable when the time is right. She was very receptive to ideas I had about my own treatment and open to working together with me and making each visit comfortable while still productive. I wanted someone who wouldn't baby me, but I know I'm sensitive—both in general and to criticism— and Stephanie has a wonderful balance at providing honest and challenging thoughts while keeping an open and judgement free air. Grow offered a lot of great options, but Stephanie was my first pick and an excellent one at that.”

Getting to know Stephanie (Stevie) Willoughby

I value authenticity, empathy, and self-awareness, both for myself and as a critical part of the therapeutic process (I also take advantage of the healing power of laughter whenever possible!). I aim to normalize and validate my clients’ experiences without judgment, and above all, provide the most basic of human needs: to feel seen and heard. Hi! I’m Stephanie (Stephanie or Stevie is fine), and I’ve been providing therapy in NJ exclusively via telehealth for about the last 4 years (prior to that, in person). I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and a Master’s in Music Education from New York University. I have a deep passion and respect for the power of therapy to change lives, which I have witnessed in my work with clients and in my personal life through consistent use of therapy as part of my own self-care. If you have been struggling with symptoms of depression or anxiety, particularly related to trauma, I would love to work with you to help you begin to experience a present not overshadowed by past events. I love working with women ages 20 to 30-something who are still in academia or just starting their careers, but also with women of any age. I frequently work with survivors of child sexual abuse or clients struggling with self-worth issues, but work with many other conditions as well. While experience and education are necessary, my lived experience profoundly impacts my ability to build strong therapeutic relationships and be a more effective therapist. I have cared deeply about people of various backgrounds, races, nationalities, gender identities, sexual orientations, and have experienced or supported loved ones through many issues my clients address. My practice focuses primarily on treating adults who identify as female and is a welcoming space for members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients can expect to get as much out of therapy as they are willing to put into it. And to laugh. A lot (and possibly cry, since I do have a track record of clients becoming emotional during sessions). Different clients have different needs or goals for therapy & in turn, I feel like I am somewhat of a different therapist to different clients. Some are very focused on learning coping strategies while others are looking for someone to talk to who is objective, non-judgmental, & has a fresh perspective. Some are living with chronic physical, mental or other conditions & are grieving the loss of their independence or former life. But the most important thing I want my clients to take away from our sessions is the feeling of being truly seen & heard, without judgment or reservation. I do not currently treat cisgender heterosexual males, children or adolescents.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

She is kind, and a great listener. Gives great advice dealing with weekly issues and ways to cope
Stephanie is great at making you feel validated and gives you the space to explore anything.
I like how she tells her side of the similar situations from her life.

Honesty, humor, and directness are important to me, and Stephanie is true to her bio/profile. If you read her blurb and connected with it, then you will connect with her. There's no bait and switch; what you see is what you get. She will give it to you straight and level with you. I cannot imagine her saying, "And how does that make you feel?" We laugh; I cry; I can't recommend her enough.
In the few weeks so far that i've been seeing Stephanie, I have gained so much out of therapy, more than I ever have with previous therapists. Her approach is grounding and personal.
It's difficult to find a therapist you feel super comfortable with, but I am really enjoying my time with Stephanie. I wish we had more than 1 hour! She's authentic, funny and extremely open minded. She's very knowledgeable and has blown my mind in making me feel validated through understanding of why I am the way I am (ADHD, OCD, etc.) It's also extremely helpful that our values/social views really align. Our conversations feel like a safe space.
My visit with Stevie always leaves me feeling less anxious, more confident within myself, and heard. Stevie continuously empowers me and helps me learn coping mechanisms to help me move through life. I could not appreciate her practices more and love her charisma.
Stephanie is a godsend. She is knowledgable, compassionate, and is extremely insightful, as any excellent physician. Stephanie's approach is what I appreciate the most. There is no fast solutions. You have to do the work, and trust the process (ugh, I know). Gradually yet effectually, at the moment you needed those skills, they will speak, to protect your own wellbeing. Stephanie also gave me practical tools to help with my anxiety and anger - from breathing exercises to communication strategy (I know it sounds calculated, yet it is not), I behave mindfully, instead letting my emotion to drive myself to failure. I will continue working with Stephanie for the foreseeable future, and am confident even if when the time comes for me to "Graduate", the skills and awareness I have gained and the impact Stephanie made to me will be lifetime.
