Psychotherapist
CA
Stephen T. Prystash, LMFT. Licensed since 1988, I have been in private practice since then. I earned my Bachelor's from Capital University and a Master’s in Education and Psychology from Ohio State University. I believe people are generally programmed toward personal fulfillment (self-actualization). My job is to create a safe, comfortable setting where one can explore their personal story and grow toward their potential. The Greek philosopher Socrates said, "the unexamined life is not worth living." Therapy, at its root, is about this examination. My approach First and foremost, forming a trusting therapeutic relationship is essential before meaningful therapy can occur. Since 1988, I have become well-versed in most therapeutic modalities. My approach is eclectic and tailored to individuals' needs. I always include some form of Socratic reasoning to help clients understand their true motivations. My focus "Life is Difficult," as the world’s great existential/spiritual traditions maintain. Most people encounter trauma in their lifetimes. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and primarily work with individuals and personal life experiences that have been traumatizing but have also shaped them at a core level. My communication style As noted, the prerequisite to meaningful therapy is the trusting relationship between therapist and client. I strive to make sessions relaxed and down to earth. When appropriate, humor is often part of the therapeutic work. My journey to mental healthcare Long story, but basically about figuring out my own life problems. I was the first in my immediate family to graduate high school and college. I come from an industrial town in northeast Ohio and came of age in the early ’70s.
