Getting to know Steve Leland

Hello. I'm currently accepting new clients(ages 18+) for individual counseling sessions. I offer some evening and weekend sessions. I no longer provide family or couples/marital counseling services. However, I do address relationship issues individually. For over 26 years, I've helped people make positive changes. I welcome the opportunity to support you in addressing your concerns and reaching your goals. I attempt to provide a relaxing, non-judgmental environment, allowing people to be heard and understood, so positive change, healing and/or growth can begin. My style is client-focused, adapting to your needs and goals and ensuring your therapeutic goals are reasonable and achievable. I also incorporate therapeutic humor when deemed appropriate. I have been a National Board Certified Counselor(NCC) since 2000, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor(LMHC in FL) since 2002, and a Licensed Professional Counselor(LPC in GA) since 2021. I help people who are dealing with depressive symptoms, anxiety, adjustment issues, mood swings/instability; life stressors/stress management; anger management, frustration tolerance, coping, & social skills, relationship issues, grief/loss issues, parenting & behavior modification skills, mindfulness, work/life balance, and life enhancement, amongst others. I help clients identify thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that keep them stuck, so they can overcome challenges, grow, and reach their full potential. Having worked in community mental health and social services field since 1992, I'm seasoned in providing adults with compassionate, contemporary and effective mental health counseling/therapy. Using an eclectic & comprehensive approach tailored to the needs of each person, I use techniques based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT), Rogerian/Person-Centered Experiential Therapy(PCET), REBT(Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy(DBT), Solution-Focused, and behavioral schools of counseling.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

First appointment exceeded expectations and I was excited to start regular sessions with Steve. He was easy to talk to, smart, and full of parables and suggestions for navigating life. My second appointment was two days later and he did not remember ever speaking with me - told the same stories verbatim from the first session as if we were meeting for the first time, asked many of the same intake questions, and constantly had to refer to his notes that he clearly didn’t review before our session. He then spent 15 minutes (1/4 of the session time) telling a story about his middle school chemistry teacher, which I found to be a profound waste of time as I had things I would have much rather have discussed with the short time I’m paying for. I am extremely disappointed in this experience and unfortunately will not be returning as a patient.

I was so nervous before meeting Steve for my first therapy session in years but all anxiety was immediately quelled by how personable he was. I can’t wait to speak with him for my further appointments
