Psychotherapist

I'm Steven *extends hand*. I see myself as like a "babysitter of hearts..." and I want you to feel comfortable sharing your heart with me. I do my best to co-create with you a space you can call yours and use for your growth, development, and elevation. My approach My approach is a mixture of relational, creative/expressive arts, narrative, and phenomenological (don't worry if you're not familiar with these...). My approach can be slow and explorative. Pure behavior change is not my specialty, but it is a hopeful byproduct of our work together. My focus My ideal clients are fun, introspective-leaning, and flexible. My communication style I am pretty down-to-earth. I try to reserve my professional jargon for my industry (i.e., the managed care system, other professionals); I try to make mental health/psychological functioning tangible and accessible in language and in practice. My journey to mental healthcare In retrospect, I have always used counselor-esque skills: folx have felt comfortable sharing with me about their experiences, especially their relationships. My experiences with grief and my relationship with my first therapist "put the nail in the coffin" about my becoming a therapist. My goals for you Treatment planning is a dynamic process that ebbs and flows. We may find other goals aside from those that brought you to therapy throughout our work, and that is okay. My first session with you My first sessions are mental health evaluations. I administer a pretty hefty historical assessment to get a sense of who my client is, what they have experienced, what their strengths are, and what they would like therapy to look like.
