Getting to know Steven McGough
I have been giving therapy for over 20 years, and in private practice for over 14 years. I hold a Master's in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Texas and a Master's in Educational Leadership from Framingham State University. Feeling anxiety, depression, or having relationship problems is completely normal for everyone. Sometimes, we need a little guidance on how to manage these things.
I like to provide guidance and solutions to life's struggles so that you can start feeling better as soon as possible. The vast majority of my clients show significant improvement in a short time.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I believe that our judgements about ourselves cause the majority of our anxiety and depression. Because of this, I approach mental health issues with a non-judgmental attitude. I am not heavy on diagnosing in the traditional sense, as I do not believe it to be helpful. The best approach is to find a solution or new perspective.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
The first session is mainly getting the paperwork out of the way and then getting to know you and your situation. As soon as I believe I have a good idea of what you are going through, we begin to work on solutions.

Steve is a professional who loves what he does and with an infallible ethic.
Since I started with him, we have focused on my thought patterns and on understanding my role in that dynamic.
He made me realize that I am the one who directs my life, not others. Steve is an excellent psychologist and has helped me a lot. He's easy to talk to and goal-oriented. He doesn't really focus on Freudian psychoanalysis of your past, but on what you want to achieve and how to get past obstacles. He has helped me to realize what's truly important to me, to be true to my values, and to live a fulfilling life. Most importantly, he has helped me work through my own mental blocks and to get unstuck. I recommend him to all my friends.
