Getting to know Stina Reed

I worked for many years as a psychiatric nurse and as time went by, I decided I could provide greater service to clients by counseling them rather than primarily medicating them. I returned to Graduate school to become a counselor. I have worked for over ten years, with many young adults, adults and elders. My specialty is deep listening and first determining a client's best hopes for therapy. This may result in collaborating with clients to find their core beliefs which no longer serve them. We explore the root causes that may result in repetition of dysfunctional patterns of behavior.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I do intakes in- person, not ahead of time so as to understand more fully the context from which issues arise. If client's have difficulty accessing core-beliefs, I may utilize the Young Schema Questionnaire. Much of treatment may involve witnessing and reparenting wounded childhood parts to create more self- love and confidence.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Process is collaborative as described above. Although a diagnosis can be provided, it is not usually seen as fixed. The body, mind and spirit are always changing and have potential for growth. As described above, witnessing and repairing childhood wounds is often key.
