Getting to know Susan Futeral

Hello, I'm Dr. Sue Futeral Myrowitz, and I'm here to support you on your journey to better mental health. With over 30 years of experience in teaching, research, and clinical practice, I bring a wealth of knowledge and compassion to my work. I hold a BA from Goucher College, an MSW and PhD from the University of Maryland, and a second doctorate in addictions counseling. My certifications include Trauma Specialist, Expressive Arts Therapy, Integrative Medicine and Nutrition for Trauma Treatment, Mental Health First Aid, Forensics, Hypnotherapy, and Addictions. I specialize in a wide range of areas including addiction, ADHD, adolescent and teen mental health, anger management, anxiety, autism spectrum support, bipolar disorder, children's mental health, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, grief and bereavement, intimate relationships, learning disorders, LGBTQIA+ support, life transitions, military and veteran support, OCD, PTSD, sex and intimacy issues, stress, trauma, and traumatic brain injury. Whether you're dealing with life's everyday stresses or more complex issues, I'm here to help. My approach to therapy is holistic and integrative, utilizing techniques such as hypnosis, art therapy, music therapy, and psychodrama. I believe in the power of expressive arts and integrative medicine to heal and transform. I offer individual, couples, and family counseling, and I have extensive experience working in educational settings, helping students and staff manage stress and improve their coping skills. One of the most intense and rewarding experiences of my career was being deployed to Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, where I managed a caseload of 7000 individuals in the Cajun Dome. This experience reinforced my belief in the importance of staying healthy and finding balance in life.
