Getting to know Susan Montanaro

I believe therapy is a personal journey that allows individuals to gain a greater sense of themselves while working through life's challenges. I offer a safe and relaxed setting for my clients to process their thoughts and feelings so they can build self-confidence and feel more in control of their lives. I hold a Master's in Clinical Social Work from Fordham University, which has equipped me with the skills to support my clients effectively on their path to growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I find that we are often stuck because of fear and negative beliefs that leave us unable to cope. I work with my clients to uncover the 'why" or root cause of their discomfort so they can have greater awareness. My therapeutic style includes a coaching angle to set goals and create a tactical plan while building self confidence. It is a collaborative approach: we work together to address anxiety, depression, relationships + love dynamics, grief + bereavement, impulse control, or life transitions that feel overwhelming and hard.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I use various methods in my practice based on an individual's comfort and needs. I like to use manageable techniques to address the challenges they are facing. These can include strengths-based, cognitive behavioral therapy, somatic therapy, mindfulness, systems theory (the person and their environment), and setting boundaries.
