Getting to know Susan Ward

I'm a mental health therapist who believes that as a client, you are the driver and I am the navigator. The therapeutic relationship is very important in the process and is continually strengthened. I love to work with my clients and help them find their way. I hold an MEd in School Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, which has equipped me with the skills to support and guide individuals through their mental health journeys.

What should a new client know about working with you?

During the first few sessions, expect information gathering in regards to counseling history, reasons for seeing a therapist, and forming goals. I am open and non-judgmental and likes to think outside the box when working with my clients. Expect that you'll have "homework" at times as this is when even more growth occurs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Gathering history and defining the clients' reasons for beginning therapy will occur in the first few sessions. This can be a lengthy process in order to define a diagnosis. I feel that talk therapy is beneficial for a lot of clients, especially in the beginning of the relationship, to become acquainted with each other.
