Hello! My name is Susie Ro, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience. I earned my Master's in Social Work from the University at Albany. My primary areas of practice are mood disorders-including anxiety, grief, stress, and depression-and trauma. My approach I am trained in EMDR and commonly use this alongside Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I also draw from psychoanalytical theory at times to best support my clients. My focus I work with clients experiencing mood disorders as well as those dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or Complex Trauma, which may also impact their moods. My communication style I strive to create an empathic environment while incorporating some humor. It's important to me that you feel comfortable, and I tend to mirror your approach. Sometimes I can be direct, especially when someone needs that extra push or clarity. My journey to mental healthcare I began my career as a medical social worker in trauma and emergency medicine. After taking a few years off to volunteer overseas with the Peace Corps, I found myself drawn to clinical therapy, a few years before COVID. During and after the pandemic, the demand for mental health clinicians became undeniable, and I now practice full time. My goals for you I typically get to know each person and explore what they are struggling with, looking for root causes or other underlying issues. From there, we identify what you want to work on and I provide guidance to set realistic and achievable goals. My first session with you The first session is your opportunity to share as much or as little as you like while I gain a better understanding of your challenges and goals. We will also complete a standard intake assessment to help guide our work together.
